Rhodia inaugurates 70,000 tonne/year silica plant in China

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Rhodia has inaugurated its new 72,000 tonne/year silica plant at Qingdao, China, the French polyamide and specialty chemicals producer said in a statement on Wednesday.

The plant provides more than 30% of additional capacity to Rhodia’s global production for highly dispersible silica, which is used in manufacturing tyres, the company said.

“The site will enable us to profit fully from Asia’s significant development potential and reinforce our leadership position in this market,” said Rhodia president Tom Benner in a statement.
