HOUSTON (ICIS)--Air Products completed an expansion of its Asia technology centre in Shanghai, China, the US-based industrial gases producer said on Wednesday.
The expansion would allow the company to accelerate its development of industrial gas applications for industries such as electronics amid increasing demand in Asian markets, Air Products said.
The centre’s lab footprint and research and development (R&D) staff would double within a year of the expansion, the company said. It would also make the Shanghai facility the company’s second-largest R&D facility in the world.
The Shanghai facility was built in 2005 with an initial focus on Air Products’ performance materials business.
“Asia, and China in particular, represent a high-growth region for Air Products,” said Monty Alger, vice president and chief technology officer with Air Products. “Customer requirements here are unique.”
Financial details of the expansion were not disclosed.
