LONDON (ICIS)--LANXESS has started production at a new high-quality black iron oxide pigments unit at its Jinshan site in ?xml:namespace>
The 10,000 tonnes/year of black iron oxides capacity is in addition to the existing 28,000 tonnes/year of high-quality yellow iron oxides produced at the site.

The company said the second phase was scheduled for completion in 2011.
It did not say how much it had invested in the improvements.
The company added that the rise in demand for inorganic pigments in
LANXESS said its new facility would also set high standards of environmental protection by recycling by-products from other processes into high-quality black iron oxide pigments.
It is also equipped with an ultra-modern wastewater treatment facility that is directly linked to an industrial water treatment plant, the company said.
Iron oxide is used in the construction industry and the paint and coating sector, as well as the plastics and paper industries.
The Inorganic Pigments business unit belongs to the LANXESS Performance Chemicals segment, which achieved total sales of €1.53bn ($2.13bn) in the fiscal year 2009.
