SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) restarted its 600,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Ningbo in eastern China on 27 October after a turnaround, a company source said on Thursday.
"We spent longer time in the restarting as this is the first turnaround for the unit after it started up in April 2008,” the source said. The unit had been shut down on 8 October for a two-week long annual turnaround.
The unit was running at low rates after it restarted and was expected to reach full tilt by Friday, the source said.
“It may take another week for the company to resume supplies,” said a Zhejiang-based polyester producer who is a major customer of FCFC Ningbo.
PTA was currently in tight supply following shutdowns at a few local plants, the polyester maker added.
