Brazil elects first woman president, current policies to continue

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--
The 62-year old former leftist guerrilla who was imprisoned in 1970-1972 during Brazil’s military rule had secured 56% valid votes out of the 99% counted, against 44% for her opponent, Jose Serra, of the Social Democratic Party, the country’s Superior Electoral Court was quoted by the BBC as saying.
