SHANGHAI (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG Chem shut its Naju-based 190,000 tonne/year oxo-alcohols facility and 150,000 tonne/year plasticiser unit on 1 November for a 20-day annual turnaround, a company source said on Tuesday.

"Imports to China would be reduced because of the shutdown. However, it has yet to cause much of an impact on prices, despite the country’s current tight [2-EH] supply situation," a trader told ICIS in Mandarin.

The producer also runs a 130,000 tonne/year 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) unit in Yeosu, South Korea, which is currently operating “normally”, according to the company source.

2-EH is used in the production of phthalate plasticisers, adhesives, acrylic paints and printing inks.
