HOUSTON (ICIS)--US chlorovinyls producer Georgia Gulf’s third-quarter operating income rose 39% to $53.23m (€38.33m) from the same quarter last year on the strength of higher sales revenue, the company said on Tuesday.

Georgia Gulf reported net sales of $758.04m for the third quarter ended 30 September, 36% higher than the net sales of $556.34m reported in the third quarter of 2009. Higher sales prices in vinyl resins and caustic soda, as well as higher volumes in aromatics products, resulted in the increase, the company said.

The company did not release its net income.

The company’s chlorovinyls segment sales increased to $316.74m in the third quarter from $229.13m during the third quarter of 2009.

Higher sales prices for caustic soda and higher sales prices and volumes for vinyl resins led to the increase, the company said. The segment posted operating income of $46.14m compared with operating income of $30.57m during the same quarter in the prior year.
