APLA ’10: Brazil caustic soda facility undergoing inspection

RIO DE JANEIRO (ICIS)--A caustic soda production plant in Brazil is undergoing inspection and fine tuning is expected to be completed by 13 November, a source said on Monday.

In the meantime, customers were adequately supplied as the inspection proceeded, a Brazilian participant said on the sidelines of the Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA) annual meeting.

Another chlor-alkali plant in Brazil was scheduled for maintenance from 4 November until 13 December, sources said.

The production restrictions will limit caustic soda availability in Brazil.

The market is expected to remain short-to-finely-balanced until the end of the year, amid strong demand, sources said.

Robust caustic soda demand was noted in all sectors in Brazil. There was buoyant activity in the alumina, paper/pulp, and soap and detergent markets.
