HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acetic acid exports rose 10% to 85,091 tonnes in September from 77,109 tonnes in the same month of 2009, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Wednesday.
Year-to-date through September, acetic acid exports totalled 729,890 tonnes, down by 10% from 808,924 tonnes during the same period last year, the ITC data showed.
Weaker demand overseas attracted fewer US exports, sources said.
Belgium, Mexico and Brazil remained the top three export destinations, accounting for almost 90% of all exports with 653,169 tonnes, compared with 549,051 tonnes in the first nine months of 2009.
US Gulf coast export FOB (free on board) acetic acid prices were $500-575/tonne (€360-414/tonne) over the past month, as assessed by ICIS. Major US acetic acid sellers include BP, Celanese and Eastman Chemical.
