Sept US expandable PS imports rise 13% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of expandable polystyrene rose by 13% to 15,366 tonnes in September from 13,586 tonnes during the same month last year, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Wednesday.

The top three suppliers to the US in September included Mexico at 5,578 tonnes, the Bahamas at 4,297 tonnes and Canada at 2,262 tonnes, according to the trade commission.

September imports were down by 0.5% from August.

For the first nine months of the year, EPS imports totalled 120,748 tonnes, down 8% from 130,833 tonnes during the first nine months of 2009.

Meanwhile, the US exported 7,561 tonnes of EPS in September, up 2.4% from the same month last year.

The top three export destinations in September included Mexico at 3,342 tonnes, Canada at 1,333 tonnes, and the Netherlands at 553 tonnes.

September exports rose 18% from August.

For the first nine months of the year, EPS exports totalled 57,352 tonnes, up 5% from 54,575 tonnes during the same period last year.
