PetroRabigh shuts LLDPE plant on raw material shortage

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical (PetroRabigh) shut its Saudi Arabia linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant last week because of a lack of raw material, sources close to the company said on Thursday.

“There is limited LLDPE for sale this week in China as a result,” one of the sources said.

Another source said: “There might be a technical problem as well, so we are uncertain when it will actually restart.”

The 600,000 tonne/year LLDPE plant is located in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia.

Company officials were not available for comment.

The company experienced operating problems with the plant in September.

PetroRabigh is a joint venture between state-owned Saudi Aramco and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical Co.
