Pirates hijack Suez-bound chemical tanker carrying vegetable oils

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Pirates hijacked a 24,105 tonne chemical tanker on Thursday while the vessel was en route to Suez from Malaysia.

The MV HANNIBAL II tanker was carrying vegetable oils, according to the European Union Naval Force for Somalia (EU Navfor).

The tanker was about 860 nautical miles east of The Horn of Africa when it was attacked and boarded by pirates, according to the master of the vessel. The area was  closer to India than to Somalia, the report said.

The tanker had 31 crew members.
