SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Energy restarted its 85,000 tonne/year isopropanol (IPA) unit in Kawasaki on 2 November after mechanical problems prolonged the plant's turnaround, the company source said on Friday.

The plant was supposed to restart on 26 October after a regular turnaround, the source said. It was taken off line on 19 October.

The plant had not been running smoothly, with operating rates currently at 70-80%, the source said.

“Due to operational restrictions, I believe the plant could only run to 100% in January next year,” he said.

IPA is used mainly as a solvent in applications such as cosmetics and pharmaceutical products, inks and coatings.
