TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s total domestic shipments of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resin decreased by 9% to 21,573 tonnes in October 2010 from October 2009, reflecting a drop in shipments for most applications, statistics from the Japan’s ABS resin industry association showed on Tuesday.
Shipments of ABS resin for use in housing construction fell by 25% to 1,830 tonnes in October from the previous year, while shipments for general machinery decreased by 9% to 2,695 tonnes year on year, according to the association.
A total of 3,256 tonnes of ABS resin was used in electrical appliances in October, down 5% from the same time a year earlier, while shipments of the product for miscellaneous items declined 16% to 5,675 tonnes year on year, the association said.
On the other hand, shipments of ABS resin for automotive applications increased by 2% to 7,254 tonnes, according to the association.
