LONDON (ICIS)--Clariant is transforming its 37-hectare company premises in Muttenz, in the Basel region of Switzerland, into an industrial park, the Swiss specialty chemicals group said on Wednesday.

Clariant added that 16 hectares of the area, to be called Infrapark Baselland, would be available to interested research and manufacturing companies from the chemicals and life science industries.

The industrial park was scheduled to start up at the beginning of 2011, the group said.

Clariant said that the future industrial park had been developed for road, rail, ship and air access, adding that companies such as PanGas and Bayer were already operating on the land.

The amount Clariant invested to transform the site into an industrial park was not disclosed.

In October, as part of its 2009/2010 restructuring programme set up to address the structural weaknesses of its asset base and the long-term overcapacity issues of its production network, Clariant announced it would relocate its application development laboratories for technical textiles and finishing in Reinach, Switzerland, to Muttenz, which would also remain the location for the business unit’s European sales and marketing operation.

Clariant added that its paper specialties business unit’s headquarters team would also be moving from Reinach to Muttenz.
