LONDON (ICIS)--Bayer has successfully registered 125 high-volume chemicals under the EU’s Reach regulation, the materials, healthcare and crop protection company said on Monday.

The registration effort had involved 50 experts for three years, it added.

The first Reach registration deadline on 30 November is for substances produced and marketed in the EU in volumes of more than 1,000 tonnes a year as well as toxic and persistent ‘substances of very high concern’ (SVHCs).

Bayer said it had worked in Reach consortia to complete the data collection task for its product registrations, many of which were over 100 pages long.

The next two Reach registration deadlines, of lower tonnage chemicals in 2013 and 2018, will continue to pose a major challenge “not least because plans are afoot to fundamentally revise the Reach Regulation in 2012,” Bayer said. The deadlines will be particularly important for the company’s crop science and healthcare businesses.

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) said on Monday that it would release Reach registration statistics on 1 December.
