Japan’s Mitsui runs naphtha crackers at near full capacity

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals is operating its naphtha crackers at near full capacity amid healthy downstream demand, said a source close to the company on Wednesday.

“The plants are running close to 100 percent. Demand’s good,” the source added.

Mitsui runs a 617,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, as well a 450,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker in Osaka.

Ethylene spot prices were valued at $1,080-1,120/tonne (€832-862/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) northeast Asia on Tuesday, compared with $960-980/tonne CFR NE (northeast) Asia a month ago, ICIS data showed.
