SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Honam Petrochemical is operating its naphtha crackers at full capacity, supported by a strong downstream market, traders said on Wednesday.

“The crackers are running at 100%,” a trader said.

Honam will shut its 750,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker in Yeosu for debottlenecking work in April next year.

The maintenance is expected to last around 10 days.

The shutdown is part of the company’s effort to increase its ethylene capacity at Yeosu to 1m tonnes/year by 2012.

Honam Petrochemical also operates a 1m tonne/year naphtha cracker in Daesan, South Korea, which is due to undergo a month-long turnaround in October 2011.
