Q3 GDP up 0.4% in the eurozone, 0.5% in the EU

LONDON (ICIS)--Gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.4% in the eurozone and by 0.5% in the 27-member EU during the third quarter compared with the previous three-month period, European statistics office Eurostat said on Thursday.

In the second quarter of 2010, growth rates were 1.0% in both the eurozone and the EU.

Year on year, GDP in the 13-member eurozone rose by 1.9% and by 2.2% in the EU.

Sweden’s economy grew at the fastest rate in the EU at 2.1%, while growth rates in Poland and Finland were at 1.3%.

Greece’s economy continued to contract at a rate of 1.1%.

Eurostat said that in the US GDP increased by 0.6% during the third quarter, and in Japan growth rates in the three-month period were at 0.9%.
