ADM opens 2,500 tonne/day fertilizer blending plant in Paraguay

SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has started up operations at its fertilizer blending plant in Villeta, Paraguay, the US-based agribusiness giant said on Thursday.

The plant will have a production capacity of 2,500 tonnes/day, making it the largest plant of its kind in Paraguay, ADM said.

ADM chief executive Patricia Woertz said the plant was needed based on global population growth, which subsequently will raise demand for food and energy.

The company did not reveal investment figures for the facility, which will utilise about 80 employees and an extensive contractor workforce, ADM said.

ADM said the fertilizer facility would be joined in 2012 by an adjacent soybean processing facility, with a crush capacity of 3,300 tonnes/day.
