MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russian isoprene producers may halt exports in 2011 because of growing domestic demand, an industry source said on Friday.

Overseas shipments of isoprene are expected to be stopped as soon as current contractual obligations are fulfilled, said the source, who declined to be identified.

Isoprene is one of a variety of monomers from the polymerisation of which synthetic rubber is produced.

Russia's petrochemical producer Nizhnekamskneftekhim (NKNKh) has been estimated to export some 20,000 tonnes/year of isoprene, while the country's major petrochemical holding Sibur exports around 15,000 tonnes/year.
