SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Petrochemical giant Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) will conduct turnarounds at selected methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plants in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, from late December 2010 to early February 2011, traders said on Monday.
In addition to the two units, the company also runs another 700,000 tonne/year MTBE plant in Al-Jubail.
A company spokesperson confirmed the turnarounds but did not identify which plants would be taken off line.
“These maintenance works are conducted annually... We do not foresee any disruption to our customers,” communications director Lili Koh said in an email to ICIS.
MTBE is used as an additive to improve gasoline's octane levels.
