SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China's Maoming Petrochemical shut down its aromatics plant at Maoming in Guangdong province on 5 December for 12 days of annual maintenance, a company source said on Monday.

The plant produces 240,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 140,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 105,000 tonnes/year of mixed xylenes, the source added.

Maoming Petrochemical currently has 2,600 tonnes of benzene, 1,200 tonnes of toluene and 1,600 tonnes of mixed xylenes in its inventories, according to the source.

These stocks were sufficient for the next three to 10 days of spot supply, traders said, adding the shutdown would not have much impact on the market, as most downstream players were clearing out their inventories during the year-end period.
