US October MDI exports rise 41% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of mixtures of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in October were 2,241 tonnes, a 41% increase from 1,594 tonnes during the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Friday.

October MDI exports increased 38% from 1,629 tonnes in the previous month.

Through October, MDI exports increased by 26% to 15,139 tonnes, compared with 12,054 tonnes in the first ten months last year, according to the ITC.

The volume increase from 2009 to 2010 was due to greater volumes shipped during the first ten months to Brazil and Mexico, and a still significant although smaller volume to China.

Top destinations for US MDI from January to October were Brazil (5,603 tonnes), China (3,410 tonnes) and Mexico (3,161 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers include Bayer MaterialScience, BASF and Dow Chemical.
