Mexichem’s Colombia PVC plant restarting this weekend

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Mexichem Resinas Colombia was expected to restart its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant in Cartagena this weekend following last week’s flooding and shutdown, local industry sources said on Friday.

The Colombian production facility, a Mexichem subsidiary, would first restart the emulsion PVC unit, and one week later the suspension PVC unit, according to the sources.

The plant flooded about ten days ago, when continuing heavy rains caused a nearby creek to overflow. Similar flooding occurred at the PVC facility in early November.

Sources in the region said the weather had improved, and the intensity and duration of the rains had diminished significantly.
