HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of ethyl acetate (etac) fell almost 25% in October from the same month last year, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Year-to-date through October, etac exports fell 24% to 21,077 tonnes, compared with 27,815 tonnes during the same period last year, according to the ITC data.

Etac demand continued to sink from the global economic situation, sources said. Etac's major downstream market is in inks, coatings and adhesives.

Four of the five top export destinations are in North and South America - Canada, Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela - accounting for 56% of all exports with 11,877 tonnes, according to the ITC data.

Spain received the second largest shipment total, about 4,500 tonnes, behind Canada, which took 5,621 tonnes.

US Gulf Coast export free on board (FOB) prices for etac were $1,058-1,168/tonne (€804-888/tonne) over the past month, as assessed by ICIS.

Major US etac producers include Celanese, Eastman Chemical and Solutia, whose material is marketed by Celanese.
