The country produced 41,875 tonnes of VAM in October 2010, a 6% increase from October 2009, according to Sakubi POVAL kogyokai, the VAM PVA industry association.
No-one was available for immediate comment at the association, which is part of the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA).
A total of 10,694 tonnes of VAM were shipped domestically in October, a rise of 12% year on year, according to the data.
Among different domestic applications of VAM, 27,420 tonnes were used for the production of PVA, down 3% year on year, while 6,946 tonnes were shipped for use in ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), the copolymer of ethylene and VAM. This was a 4% increase year on year.
A total of 2,500 tonnes of VAM were exported in October, which was half the amount in the same period the year before, the association said.
Among domestic shipments, 4,215 tonnes were for use in vinylon, a synthetic fibre spun from PVA, down 3% from a year earlier, while shipments for adhesives rose 4% to 1,939 tonnes, according to the association.
The country exported 6,217 tonnes of PVA in October, down 20% from the same time a year before.
