Huntsman says no end-December shutdown at Shanghai MDI plant

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--US-based Huntsman has no plans to shut its 240,000 tonne/year methylene-diphenyl-diisocyanate (MDI) facility in Shanghai, China, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday.

ICIS ran a story on 8 December that the MDI facility would be taken off line by the end of the month to fix some minor technical issues.

The MDI unit in Caojing is operated by Shanghai Lianheng Isocyanate Co (SLIC) - a joint venture between Huntsman, BASF, Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Chemical, Shanghai Huayi Group and Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical.

A splitter unit adjacent to the MDI plant, meanwhile, is operated by Huntsman Polyurethanes Shanghai (HPS) – a joint venture between Huntsman and Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Chemical.

“Nither SLIC nor HPS have been (or will be) down in December,” said Gary Chapman, vice president for global communications at Huntsman, in an e-mailed statement.
