SHANGHAI (ICIS)--An explosion at a pharmaceutical plant in Yunnan province, southern China, early Thursday killed five people and injured eight others, state-run media Xinhua News Agency reported.
The blast at the plant, believed to be owned by Kunming Quanxin Pharmaceutical Co, occurred at around 10:10 hours local time (02:10 GMT), engulfing the fire with thick smoke and fire, according to Xinhua.
The fire was put out about two hours later, Xinhua said, adding that the cause of the blast was still under investigation.
