SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yikun Chemical will take its methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant off line in May for a turnaround, market players said on Thursday.

The maintenance would last between two weeks and a month, they added.

The 20,000 tonne/year plant is located at Shandong in eastern China, home to numerous private teapot refiners whose capacity is 100,000 bbl/day and below, players said.

Meanwhile, MTBE prices in southern China rose to yuan (CNY) 7,500-7,550/tonne ($1,113-1,140/tonne) from 7,300-7,400/tonne, following a hike in domestic pump prices in December 2010.
