Echem and SABIC considering PE, cracker JV in Egypt – source

DUBAI (ICIS)--Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Co (Echem) and SABIC are studying the possibility of forming a joint venture (JV) to build a 400,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) plant and an ethane cracker in Alexandria, Egypt, an Echem source said on Tuesday.
“We hope the new facilities can start up three years from now,” the Echem source said on the sidelines of the Arabplast exhibition in ?xml:namespace>Dubai.
The four-day 10th Arab International Plastics and Rubber Industry Trade Show and Conference in Dubai ends today.
SABIC, which manufactures chemicals, fertilizers, plastics and metals, was not immediately available for comment.
