HOUSTON (ICIS)--Bayer Material Science completed an expansion of its polycarbonate (PC) and PC film capacity at its South Deerfield plant in Massachusets, the company said on Wednesday .

With the expansion, Bayer said it would be able to produce gloss-gloss and textured PC and PC-blend films.

The products will be mostly used in the consumer electronics, appliances and automotive segments.

Bayer did not immediately return requests for information regarding the amount of capacity gained or the plant’s previous capacity.

Bayer has another PC plant, in Baytown, Texas, with a nameplate capacity of 260,000 tonnes/year.

PC prices in the US were assessed by ICIS at 150-165 cents/lb ($3,307-3,638/tonne, €2,546-2,801/tonne) for extrusion- and injection-grade material, although price increases of 6-10 cents/lb have since been implemented, according to sources.

($1 = €0.77)
