SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Shell MDS (Malaysia) is planning to expand production at its gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant in Bintulu, Sarawak, to around 29,400 bbl/day by late 2011, a company source said on Thursday.
The plant currently has the capacity to convert approximately 3m cubic metres (cbm) of natural gas into some 14,700 bbl of cleaner GTL products each day, the source added.
Waxes would form a significant portion of that output and its quality would comply with the United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) regulations for indirect food-contact applications, according to the source.
However, no firm dates were provided for the commissioning and completion of the plant expansion.
Shell MDS’ specialty waxes are marketed to over 40 countries in Asia, Europe, the United States and Australia and are used in various applications including hot-melt adhesives, printing inks, cable filling, corrugated and fibre boards, matchsticks and PVC lubricants.
