HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in November were 771 tonnes, a 39% drop from 1,265 tonnes during the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Thursday.

November MDI exports were down 66 % from 2,241 tonnes in the previous month.

Through November, MDI exports increased by 19% to 15,909 tonnes, compared with 13,318 tonnes in the first 11 months of 2009, according to the ITC.

The volume increase from 2009 to 2010 was due to greater volumes shipped during the first 11 months to Brazil and Mexico, and a still significant although smaller volume to China.

Top destinations for US MDI from January to November were Brazil (5,658 tonnes), China (3,525 tonnes) and Mexico (3,455 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, BASF and Dow Chemical.
