HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of ethyl acetate (etac) plunged 69% in November to 1,495 tonnes, compared with 4,760 tonnes during the same month of 2009, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

For 2010 through November, etac exports fell 31% to 22,572 tonnes, compared with 32,575 tonnes during the same period of 2009, according to the ITC data.

Etac demand continued to drop from the sagging global economy, sources said. Etac's major downstream market is in inks, coatings and adhesives.

The three top export destinations - Canada, Mexico and Venezuela - accounted for 47% of all exports with 10,690 tonnes, according to the ITC data.

US Gulf Coast export free on board (FOB) prices for etac ranged within 48-56 cents/lb ($1,058-1,235/tonne (€804-939/tonne)) over the past month, as assessed by ICIS.

Major US etac producers include Celanese, Eastman Chemical and Solutia, whose material is marketed by Celanese.
