HOUSTON (ICIS)--South American petrochemicals major Braskem plans to invest Brazilian reais (R) 300m ($180m, €135m) constructing a new butadiene (BD) plant in Brazil, a company spokesperson said on Friday.
The plant will have a 100,000 tonne/year capacity and begin production in 2013.
The investment will boost Braskem’s BD capacity by 30%.
The company has two BD extraction units in Brazil with a combined capacity of 335,000 tonne/year.
The figure does not include a third BD plant, owned by Quattor, which is in the process of merging with Braskem.
