China’s Datang Duolun Coal Chemical to start up MTP plant in Feb

GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--China’s Datang Duolun Coal Chemical plans to start up its coal-based methanol-to-propylene (MTP) complex at Duolun in the northern Inner Mongolia region by next month, a company source said on Wednesday.

“We commissioned the facility on 15 January and are now doing maintenance. Formal operation is scheduled after the Lunar New Year,” the source told ICIS in Mandarin.

The Lunar New Year holiday falls on 2-8 February.

The complex was scheduled to start up last year, but it was not immediately known why it had been delayed.

The complex can produce 453,700 tonnes/year of polypropylene (PP), 120,000 tonnes/year of gasoline and 45,000 tonnes/year of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The upstream coal gasification and methanol units would be operated together with the MTP complex, the source added.

Datang Duolun Coal Chemical is a joint venture between China Datang and Datang International Power Generation.
