TORONTO (ICIS)--Novamont has set up a new US company to expand in North America, the Italy-based producer of bioplastics and compostable materials said on Wednesday.

Novamont North America would be headquartered in Danbury, Connecticut, Novamont said.

Company president Tony Gioffre said North America’s composting market had grown significantly in the past decade.

“[The market] is now ready to make a big step forward due to higher environmental sensitivity and increased attention on the economics of waste diversion,” he said.

In related news, US bioplastics firm Cereplast said on Wednesday it sealed a distribution deal for its resins in Romania.
