HOUSTON (ICIS)--US fuel ethanol inventories rose by 4.2% in the week ended 14 January, surpassing an increase in daily production during the same week, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Thursday.

Ethanol stocks stood at 17.80m bbl (748m gal), up from 17.09m bbl in the first week of the year.

The increase in inventories, which was the seventh in as many weeks, was likely due to logistics delays caused by inclement weather in parts of the US, one source said.

Meanwhile, daily production last week rose by 2.8% to 913,000 bbl/day, the government said.

For the month of December, daily ethanol output averaged 920,000 bbl/day, up by 3.7% from 887,000 bbl/day in November, according to EIA data.
