The 1.3m tonne/year plant, which was originally slated for commercial production in early 2010, was finally started this week after a series of delays.
“We are expecting to load ships – at least one – in Q1, assuming there are no further setbacks,” said the source.
Other market sources played down the impact the plant would have in Q1, saying they did not expect to see significant volumes before Q2.
“It takes time to accumulate stocks. It can take months,” said a trader.
The Methanex source said plans were still on track to restart its 470,000 tonne/year plant in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, in April this year. The facility has been offl ine since 2002.
