China’s Oxiranchem plans EO and derivatives plants in Yangzhou

GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--China’s Liaoning-based Oxiranchem plans to build a 200,000 tonne/year ethylene oxide (EO) plant and some downstream units in Yangzhou, eastern province of Jiangsu, a company source said on Thursday. 

A preliminary agreement between Oxiranchem and Yangzhou government on location and size of the land for the project was signed on 16 January while work on the feasibility study was expected to begin soon, the source said.

“It’s hard to say when construction will kick off, and how much the investment size will be, it will all depend on the result of the study report,” he told ICIS in Mandarin.

The facility will take ethylene as feedstock and South Korea’s Daelim will supply 150,000 tonnes/year of the material for the new plant, according to the source.

A 300,000 tonne/year dimethyl carbonate/ethylene carbonate unit and a 300,000 tonne/year EO derivatives plant would be constructed at the same time and location, the source added.
