LONDON (ICIS)--The UN and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) launched on Thursday the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) initiative at the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in ?xml:namespace>
Under the motto "Chemistry: our life, our future," the IYC is aimed at promoting a deeper public understanding of chemistry's role in meeting the world's needs and encouraging interest in chemistry among young people.
Over the course of the year, there will be a number of IYC events across the world that cover important local, regional and global issues of nutrition, health, materials, energy and the environment.
The initiative marks an opportunity for the chemical industry to show the world how important its products and processes are in the global economy.
