HOUSTON (ICIS)--Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has asked for his government to resign following days of protest from the public, CNN reported on Friday.

Egypt is a major exporter of urea, particularly to Europe.

The nation's total urea production in 2009 was 5m tonnes, of which 3.4m tonnes were exported, according to ICIS.

Main exporters include OCI, Helwan, Alexfert and Mopco.

In addition, Canada’s Methanex is expected to start shipping methanol from its new 1.3m tonne/year EMethanex joint venture plant in Damietta, Egypt, before the end of the first quarter.
