LONDON (ICIS)--The first European February styrene barge contract has been settled at €1,320/tonne ($1,808/tonne), up €105/tonne from January, the buyer and seller involved said on Tuesday.

According to the buyer, the increase covers raw material hikes for benzene and ethylene.

The buyer added: “The spread between benzene and styrene is only approximately $100/tonne, which is below the level for producers to make positive margins, but spot styrene appears plentiful so spot pricing reflects this.”

February spot styrene levels were at $1,460-1,480/tonne FOB (free on board) Rotterdam this afternoon.

The styrene price was agreed on a free delivered (FD) northwest Europe (NWE) basis.
