LONDON (ICIS)--Cognis’s unsaturated alcohols production at Dusseldorf-Holthausen in Germany was halted after an explosion at the site, a company spokesperson said on Friday.
The blast happened at 16:40 local time (15:40GMT) on Thursday at its vegetable oils and alcohols unit in the hydrogenation part of the alcohols facility.
No-one was killed but a contract employee was injured after falling from scaffolding, the spokesperson said.
The cause of the explosion was still being investigated and it was unclear how long the facilities would remain shut, the company said.
Cognis did not disclose the annual capacity of the site.
