HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports for 2010 were up 28% from 2009, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US 2010 exports rose by 28% from 2.127m tonnes to 2.723m tonnes.

Exports rose last year because of sluggish US construction and housing sectors, trade participants said.

Exports in December rose 20% to 255,646 tonnes from 212,584 tonnes in December 2009, the ITC said.

December exports fell by 7% from 275,461 tonnes in November 2010.

In 2010, Canada was the top destination for US PVC exports, followed by China and Turkey.

Major US PVC producers include Formosa Plastics, Georgia Gulf, Shintech and Westlake.
