LONDON (ICIS)--The Shaw Group has been awarded a contract to provide basic engineering services for the expansion of Qatar Petrochemical Co’s (QAPCO) 720,000 tonne/year ethylene (C2) plant in Mesaieed, Qatar, the US engineering group said on Monday.

State-owned QAPCO aims to expand the plant's capacity by up to 25%, Shaw added.

Financial details were not disclosed.

"Our long relationship and experience puts Shaw in a unique position to best serve QAPCO in this new expansion endeavour," said Lou Pucher, president of Shaw's Energy & Chemicals Group.

Currently, Shaw is providing proprietary technology and basic engineering for GAIL’s 450,000 tonne/year ethylene plant at Pata, in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state, and engineering and procurement services to Petkim as the Turkish petrochemical producer seeks to increase its ethylene capacity by 10% to around 575,000 tonnes/year.
