US Elevance licenses catalysts from Swiss-based XiMo

SAN DIEGO (ICIS)--US renewable chemical company Elevance Renewable Sciences completed a licensing agreement with Swiss technology firm XiMo AG, a company official said late Monday.

Elevance will now be able to use XiMo’s proprietary molybdenum and tungsten metathesis catalysts in the field of natural oils, said Andy Shafer, Elevance’s vice president of sales and marketing who spoke during the Infocast Biobased Chemicals conference held in San Diego.

Shafer said the new catalysts will enable the company to decrease cost and increase production efficiency of customer products.

Elevance is currently building its first commercial-scale biorefinery in Indonesia in a joint venture partnership with agribusiness and oleochemical company Wilmar.

The refinery will have initial capacity of 180,000 tonnes/year and is expected to start later this year.

The facility will produce olefins, esters, acids, oleochemicals and biofuels using feedstock such as palm, mustard, soybean, jatropha and waste oils.

The Biobased Chemicals conference ends on Thursday.
