HOUSTON (ICIS)--The Houston Ship Channel remained closed to inbound traffic because of heavy fog, a ship pilot dispatcher said on Tuesday.

Pilots began moving vessels out of the channel this morning, but 49 vessels waited to enter the waterway in Galveston, a dispatcher for the Houston Ship Pilots said.

Fog has blanketed the Texas coast for the past few days. Visibility in Galveston Bay is not expected to improve and should be reduced to less than a half mile during the night and early on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
