HOUSTON (ICIS)--Vessel traffic on the Houston Ship Channel remained stalled on Thursday, with the line of ships waiting to enter the waterway getting longer as a result of heavy fog conditions, shipping sources said.

A dispatcher at the Houston Ship Pilots said there were 82 vessels waiting to enter the channel, 10 more than were waiting on Wednesday. There were 16 ships waiting to leave.

The West Gulf Maritime Association (WGMA), a shipowners’ group, reported that visibility is very low and that pilots have suspended boardings.

The low visibility is expected to remain until Friday morning when dry air in a cold front should dissipate the fog, the WGMA said.
